How to Change Coolant Level Sensor

1) Using an 8mm socket, unscrew the negative and positive battery terminals and secure them so they don't swing up.

2) Pry open the clasp securing the coolant overflow hose with a flathead screwdriver.

3) Using a 13 socket, unscrew the three bolts holding the cross brace and remove it.

4) Look down the drivers side of the battery. You will see a 13mm bolt you need to remove. This bolt secures a bracket which holds down the battery. An extension helps get to the bolt.
Once you remove the bracket, remove the battery.

5) Looking on the radiator, near where the positive terminal on the battery was, you will see the coolant level sensor. Using a screwdriver, unclip the electric connector.

6) The sensor is held in place with a metal wire which wraps around most of the sensor. Find the side with the ends of the wire and pull them off using a screwdriver.

7) For easy cleanup it's a good idea to put a catch basin under the car to catch coolant that will spill out.
Have a towel ready and pull the sensor straight back. Coolant will start flowing out so plug the hole with the towel.

8) If you're cleaning the sensor, take a few Q-tips and swab the inside of the sensor housing and the copper sensor itself.

9) Quickly pull the towel and shove the sensor back into the hole. Reconnect the electric connector.
The easiest way to put the metal wire back into place is to put on end in place, then work your way around the sensor putting it in the tabs.

10) Put the battery back in position and reattach the securing plate. Connect the terminals, clip the coolant hose back in place and replace the cross brace.
