How to Install/Change Cabin Air Filter

Grand Prix's did not come with a passenger cabin air filter installed from the factory. The location for one is there but GM never installed one. Buick Regal's did have a filter installed, so when you go to a parts store just tell them you need a cabin air filter for a Regal, even if you have a Grand Prix. If you say Grand Prix, their computer system will say there is no matching filter.

1) With the car ON, run you wipers and turn the car OFF when the wipers are fully vertical.

2) Red: Phillips screws
Yellow: Flat head screw
Blue: Pull out wiper hose from two tabs
Green: Peel away weather stripping

The screws marked with red arrows can be annoying to remove. You need to unscrew the center section, without applying any downward force. You may need to use a flat head screw driver as a wedge to help force the screw out. Once the screw is out, you can remove the outer section.

3) Once the screws, weather stripping and fluid hose have been removed, the plastic panel can be lifted out. Under the panel you will see you old filter or if you have never installed on, the empty tray.
Note the weather stripping marked in yellow. Make sure that this is firmly secured. If you ever notice water pooled in the passenger foot well, this has slid off allowing water to pour into the air intake.

4) Pull out the old filter if you have one and clean out the cage and tray area with a wet towel.

5) Slide the new filter into the tray. The filter will bend in half as your sliding it in which is fine.

Now just put back all the pieces spoke about in Step 2.
Remember to make sure that weather stripping above the filter is secure.
